The 1.075m high mountain Dörfelstein is mainly in spring and autumn, when there is already snowed on the higher summits, a very welcome opportunity for a short hike with beautiful view points to the mountains Haller Mauern and Gesäuse.

From the municipal office in Hall bei Admont we go 300m to the north and then we turn right into the road – Gangerlgarben Weg. On forest roads we walk then following the hiking trail nr.635 up to the pasture Pitzalm. There is no hut. The average gradient is doing on the first 3 kilometers, only about 9%. At km 3.4, we leave the forest road and turn right on the narrow hiking trail Nr.627. After another 400 meters and about 100 vertical meters above we reach the ridge. On the ridge trail it goes 200m to the eastern summit of the Dörfelstein 1075m.

Since the mountain is wooded to the top, you have a very good view only on the two peaks. In autumn it is possible that you’ll escape the fog until on the last vertical meters. Next to the beautifully summit cross is even a small and simple cottage. Especially good is the view to the mountains Großer Buchstein, Hochtor, Admonter Reichenstein and Haller Mauern. After we walk on the ridge along 500m to the west, there is a second summit cross. The descent through the forest back down to Hall bei Admont is steeply on the following 900m with about 32%. After 6 kilometers the very beautiful hike ends at the municipal office.
