The Hartelsgraben is one of the most recommended tours in the National Park Gesäuse because of its impressive rock and water scenes. Especially in autumn when the colorful trees turn the landscape into a sea of colors. He was also heavily used forestry over a long period of time. Since 1892 there is a forest road up from the river - Enns. It was also the first mountain forest road in the monarchy. Particularly admirable are the dry stone settlements that can withstand the avalanche for more than 100 years.

The starting point is located about 5 km east of Gstatterboden, and 3.5 km west from Hieflau at the parking area Hartelsgraben 535m and at the road through the Gesäuse B146. From there we follow the forest road next to the romantic stream - Hartelsgrabenbach by a clammy similar gorge. Long sections of which have an average gradient of about 20%. Further up there are a few smaller and larger waterfalls. The Hartelsgraben was equipped by the Styrian forests with information panels and a show-charcoal kiln. Thus, the visitors will tell the story of wood processing in this rugged terrain. Our tour takes us to the hunting lodge - Hartelsgrabenhütte 1.100m and then we walk the same route back.
