The mountains Rottenmanner Tauern and Wölzer Tauern are a subgroup of the Central Alps in the Austrian province of Styria. Between Sölkpass and the Triebener Tauernpass there are many not too difficult mountains with peaks over 2.000m. The highest mountains in the Wölzer Tauern are Rettlkirchspitze - 2.475m, Greim 2.474m and in the Rottenmanner Tauern the Großer Bösenstein - 2.448m.

The mountain village Hohentauern is surrounded by more than 20 mountains. An ideal base for a wonderful hiking tour. The mountain - Großer Bösenstein you can be best achieved by the hut Edelrautehütte - 1708m in about 2 to 2.5 hours. To the parking lot before the Edelrautehütte you can drive up with your car on a toll road.

The city Rottenmann counts about 5.400 inhabitants and is located in the province of Styria, about 10 kilometers south-east of the district capital Liezen. Around Rottenmann there are many hiking trails, cycling and mountain bike tours. The hut Rottenmanner Hütte is surrounded by a pine-larch-spruce mixed forest. The visit is for children from 3 to 4 years possible as a convenient walk from the parking lot leads up to the cottage. Outside the cottage is a small lake. Approx. 20 minutes away from the cottage is the little alpine lake - Globuckensee.
