The 5km long walk across the hill – Mönchsberg and through the center in Salzburg is always a highly recommended experience. Besides the beautiful view points you have the opportunity to meet a few meters away from the center of Salzburg a wonderful nature. The Mönchsberg is a beautiful mountain plateau with its change of forest and meadows and the number of viewpoints as recreational area very popular. Those who travel by car to Salzburg can park in the Mönchsberg Parking Garage. The way of one of 1,400 parking spaces to the city center and all attractions is not far. Who let his parking ticket "punch holes" in one of the many shops can park very inexpensive.

We begin our hike at the University Square and go weat past the Sigmundstor to the street - Gstättengasse. The Sigmundstor is since 1764 a tunnel through the narrowest part of the Mönchsberg. The tunnel is a bravura of baroque architecture and still the only way through the Mönchsberg in the center of Salzburg. In the Gstättengasse fascinated us the houses who were built closely on the rocks of Mönchsberg. In a few seconds we go up comfortably with the lift - Mönchsberglift 60 vertical meters to the Museum of Modern Art. After the small break in the restaurant m32 and the wonderful views from the large panoramic terrace, we walk south past the inn “Stadt Alm” and the point - Karolinenhöhe to the Buddhist stupa.

Soon we come to a crossroads where we turn first to the right and insert the 500m-long detour to the view point “Richterhöhe”. The Richterhöhe provides an excellent view of the south of Salzburg and the beyond mountains of the Alps. On the road - Oskar Kokoschka Weg we walk past the castle – Festung Hohensalzburg back down to the city center. At kilometer 2.6 you have the possibility to go up to the castle. Back in the center we walk over the space – Kapitelplatz and the Salzburg Cathedral towards the river - Salzach. On the pedestrian bridge Mozartsteg we cross the Salzach. After that we go next to the river about 300m to the main bridge - Staatsbrücke and go back to the city.

Before this beautiful hike ends again at the University Square, we will make a great shopping tour through the street - Getreidegasse. The most famous shopping street in Salzburg gets its charm through the high, narrow and closely built houses, the many fine shops and the wrought iron guild signs. In the Getreidegasse is also the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. By now a museum is housed in honor of one of the greatest musical geniuses of the world.
