For the very nice, medium mountain hiking tour in the Schladminger Tauern, you should allow about 5-6 hours. The Ursprungalm at the end of the valley Preuneggtal can be reached by car from Pichl-Preunegg, and at the end on a good dirt road. For the little toll you get up on the Ursprungalm also a marked parking space. From the parking lot you’ll hike only a few hundred meters and 15 altimeters to the rustic cabins at an altitude of 1.610m. Even at the arrive, you have a lot of great vantage points. Behind the pasture Ursprungalm the mountain Steirische Kalkspitze 2.459m makes a very picturesque background. From the huts on the Ursprungalm the narrow, stony forest road starts with a gradient of 20% up on the first 800m to the Preuneggsattel. The remaining 1.4 miles through the little valley Rinderfeld with many blooming rhododendron bushes in June and July have even an average gradient of 14 percent.

The Giglachseehütte is a shelter and is located a few meters after the Preuneggsattel at 1955m. It is also possible to stay a night on the Giglachseehütte. Even a shower facility with hot water is available.
700m further in the south you reach on the Znachsattel the Salzburg region Lungau. At the border to Styria you go a little steeper at first and then pleasant uphill to the Ahkarscharte. Especially from 3.5 km, the landscape changes completely. The Dolomites, resembling area offers fantastic views. The trail is very pleasant to walk, because there are no difficult sections, steep slopes, or lifelines would be required. On the Ahkarscharte at 5.4 km you turn left towards the summit of the Lungauer Kalkspitze. You’ll reach the summit cross very easy. There are only 170 altimeters on the last kilometer.

Of the Lungauer Kalkspitze one has of the Steirischen Kalkspitze passing to the north in good weather, a wonderful view to the Dachstein.
