The path we have chosen to lake Riesachsee along the Alpine trail "Wild Waters" is not to be counfused with the 12 km long themed "Wild Water" path by Talbachklamm of Schladming and Rohrmoos-Untertal up to the inn - Gasthaus Riesachfall.
The large parking lot near the restaurant Riesachfall at 1084 is achieved very easily by car via the toll road at the end of the road through the Untertal of Schladming Rohrmoos. The Untertal located in the Dachstein Tauern region and also has large shares of the landscape "Naturpark Sölktäler". The toll fee is with 6 Euro very moderate and the road is not too steep, because the Untertal in this section is not strong increases.
After 200m on the forest road you reach the 1.5-kilometer Riesachfallsteig. This broad and very well-developed trail is the first step on the path to the wonderful lake Riesachsee. The Riesachfall is the highest waterfall in Styria. Over 2 levels are drained of Riesachsee 140m deep down into the Rohrmoos-Untertal. The Riesachfallsteig has an average gradient of 22% and winds up in a few switchbacks and a lot of stairs up to 1.235m. Much more challenging is then the alpine trail "Alpinsteig Höll" to the hut Upper Gfölleralm 1.380m. The alpine trail requires good physical condition, slip resistance sturdy shoes, vertigo, and is only suitable for children from 8 years. Where is recommended for children a safety rope. Even if the rope bridge was built across the gorge of Riesachfälle so stable and secure, but it does for the first time on a rope bridge (suspension bridge) are a challenge. My tip: The first time you should cross just alone the rope bridge because they must then only to compensate for their own vibrations. The rope bridge of the Alpine Steig Höll is 46m long and at the highest point on the Riesachklamm is 35m high. The two ropes have a diameter of 26mm, a rope length of 50m and a minimum breaking load of 40 tons per rope. The bolts for anchoring were drilled 2.5 m into the rock. The rope bridge over the Riesachfall has a weight of 2.5 tons and was built in 2005 in 200 hours. After the rope bridge the alpine trail "Alpinsteig Höll" goes on many levels, 15 some steep stairs and with some prospect of bridges in the Riesachfall - continue to the hut Upper Gfölleralm - 1.380m. Hikers are not afraid of heights can change after the Riesachfallsteig without problem on the forest road to Upper Gfölleralm and Riesachsee.
The cultivated, quaint hut Upper Gfölleralm located on a small knoll area in front of the lake Riesachsee. From the Upper Gfölleralm one has the best views of the 40m deeper Riesachsee. With a length of about 750m, width up to 250m and a maximum depth of about 20m is the Riesachsee one of the largest lakes in the alps Schladming Tauern and the Dachstein Tauern region. Near the Riesachsee are some the highest peaks of the Low Tauern. In the east the Hochwildstelle - 2.747m, in the southeast the Waldhorn - 2.702m and a little south of the Riesachsee Hochgolling with 2.862m. But not only the imposing peak, but many other lakes and huts (e.g. Klafferkessel, Klafferseen, Sonntagskarseen, Preintalerhütte - 1.657m, Gollinghütte - 1.641m) the area in the south of Schladming - Dachstein Tauern region is one of the most beautiful hiking areas in Austria.
On the forest north of the lake Riesachsee we are still walked up to the hut Kaltenbachalm. Right next to the Riesachssee we have on the sunny terrace of the rustic hut Kaltenbachalm a great break. The 4 km long descent through the forest road to the parking lot at the Inn Riesachfall is 4 km long and has besides the small slope from the Riesachsee to the Upper Gfölleralm no more pitch.
Unfortunately, a MTB Tour to Riesachsee on the forest road is not possible because cycling is prohibited. In just five meters are installed 3 prohibitive and it is even threatened with possession fault indication.
