The romantic Wörschachklamm was used until 1896 by carters as a transport route for timber and charcoal. But since the driving of wooden bridges in the steep gorge with horse was very dangerous, it gave up the route. Today, a well-secured gate leads with many wooden stairs and bridges through the gorge Wörschachklamm. With its many waterfalls is the Wörschachklamm easy to reach and a very worth trip, in Upper Styria. Open is the Wörschachklamm in May-October from 8-18h. Apart from a few euros for a ticket you can buy a season ticket. With a season ticked you are allowed to entry also outside the opening times. The walk through the Wörschachklamm is about 30min. On some panels you can learn more about the interesting and varied history of the gorge Wörschachklamm and their environment. There was, until the end of the 19th Century at the gorge entrance, a sulfur. The sulfur source is located a few hundred meters east of the gorge Wörschachklamm. When you not hike back over the ruins of Wolkenstein, you'll reach on this hike path the sulfur source and then lower the Ass ranch (green line in the Google Map). Other topics include the skidding through the gorge, tufa, a memorial plaque to Gabriel Schally - the builder of bridges through the gorge Wörschachklamm, potholes and after the gorge towards pasture Oberkogleralm the remains of a lime kiln. After crossing the trail downhill to the ass ranch will soon leave the trail to a forest road. Before the hut Oberkogleralm you have to count on the paved road leading up to the Oberkogleralm, 800m long with a little traffic. The regional specialties on the Oberkogleralm such as meat fritters, Styrian cheese donut and Styrian cheese gnocchi definitely worth it that one adheres to the approximately 4 km and 220 Hm (including tower Ennstal-view) to the loop trail Wörschachklamm.
