In the first 15 kilometers of the bike tour Nockalm with the start in Predlitz - District Murau - Styria - Austria at 924m to Turrach you can warm up with only moderate climbs. The remaining 5 kilometers up to Turracherhöhe (1792 Hm), with a continuous gradient of 10%, are purely mentally very difficult, as no hairpin provides some variety. Thus, it seems to take the first pitch on the bike lap want to no end. Shortly before the Turracherhöhe there are 2 turns. The area on the Turracherhöhe is ideally suited for the summer and winter tourism. Especially in winter, many skiers and winter visitors come to the Turracherhöhe because of good ski lifts, hotels and log cabins. In summer, the Turracherhöhe offers with the Turrachlake scenically beautiful walks. In the descent by bike from the Turracherhöhe to Winkl in Carinthia is located down a short piece with even 23% slope. Shortly before Reichenau in Winkl (1109 Hm), turn right onto the Nockalm road. After a short climb the first few kilometers on the Nockalm road to the toll gate is not steep. Immediately after the toll station the 8 kilometers long slope starts with 12% gradient. Its a very hard climb to Schiestelscharte (2040 Hm) in the National park Nockberge. The Nockalm road is a beautiful scenic road with many bends and many wonderful vantage points overlooking the nockberge mountains in Carinthia. After Schiestelscharte followed a descent down to 1551m and then back up to the Eisentalhöhe on 2049 Hm. The second major destination on the Nockalm bike tour. With an average of 8% slope of this second climb on the Nockalm road is not so stressful as the first to the Schiestelscharte. At the very beautifully situated Friesenhalsalm you go to Innerkrems - 1481 Hm. Who is tired after the first 3 climbs the Schönfeld saddle will very hard. The pass from Carinthia to Salzburg has an average gradient of over 7%. The slope of the Schönfeld saddle is not as steep at the beginning, and reaches then also 10-12%.
In the very long descent into Thomatal you can lose very well and roll along pleasantly. Only a small increase of about 50 Hm interrupts this pleasant departure.
Do not forget that you are in the alpine area. So do not forget the appropriate apparel. (long cycling shorts, windproof and waterproof jacket, cold protection for fingers and head). |
