Bad Mitterndorf is the starting point of the 10.6 kilometers long Tauplitzalm bike tour on the Tauplitzalm Alpine Road. The road has a maximum gradient of 15% and is in very good condition. On hot days you need to get going very early in the morning, as the Tauplitzalm bike tour is on the sunny side. Car traffic is low and you can enjoy nature as in mountain biking.

In some places, such as in the Dachstein-looking curve, you should insert a short pause and enjoy the view. From the top station, you can still go on the plateau Tauplitzalm 2km further. With a mountain bike you can bike up to the Steirersee (small beautiful lake). The Tauplitz is very popular in winter for skiing and cross-country skiers. In summer you can take wonderful walks on the sunny Tauplitzalm plateau with some wonderful lakes.

Because of the low hills, a walk on the Tauplitzalm is highly recommended including children and old persons. Do you have chosen the Ennstal as starting point you need note the slope in the "Old Klachau" in Unterburg. At the crossing on the B320 in Trautenfels drive in direction to Bad Aussee and turn left after about 400m at the dealership "Autohaus Weinacht" to Untergrimming. Drive along a paved side road 4km to Tauplitz. 208Hm and gradients of max. 16-22% must be managed. By Liezen up and return to the Tauplitzalm there were a total of 80 kilometers and 1.398 altimeter. Downhill mountain bikers and those which will not do the "cruelty", can also go in the summer with a 4-seater chairlift (from Tauplitz) on Tauplitzalm. In addition, a separate bike transportation is offered. The mountain ride costs about 10 euro and then starts the cycling tour on the sunny plateau Tauplitzalm without much altitude. After the departure on the Tauplitzalmroad to Bad Mitterndorf follow the Salzkammergut Cycle R19 to the starting point in Tauplitz.

Tauplitzalm in winter:
At Tauplitzalm is an idyllic alpine village with some restaurants and many quaint cottages. Overall, in the winter season, about 1,000 beds available at 1650m. The Tauplitzalm is in winter car-free. The only means of transportation are skidoos and slope devices. The skiers are supplied from 25 huts and mountain restaurants.

The winter mountain pastures at 1600m and the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains provide a beautiful backdrop for the two cross-country skiing - Lärchenwald (larch forest) loipe and Sturzhahn-loipe. The prospect of the Tauplitzalm just limited to the north from the southern slope of Traweng, but the views to the east and south towards the Ennstal, Grimming and westward to the Dachstein glacier is fantastic.

The ski area Tauplitzalm offers 40km sunny, snowy ski slopes (17 easy, 17 medium, 6 severe) with 18 lifts (4 chair lifts 14 surface lifts). The ski area in styria is accessible from the Ennstal (Trautenfels crossing on the B320, direction Bad Aussee) and from Upper Austria on the Pötschenpass. The lift base station is located in Tauplitz on 900m and the slopes on the Tauplitzalm lie between about 1600m and 1965m. The 2 cross-country trails at Tauplitzalm are approximately 11 kilometers long with a beautifully scenery. Due to the high altitude of 1600m and the associated snow safety also many professional cross-country skiers train in Tauplitzalm.
