The beautiful and very well marked Ausseer Cycle Path R61 through the famous region Salzkammergut has a length of 19.5 kilometers and from Pichl - Kainisch to Blaa Alm moderate 415 vertical meters. Except for the last 1.5 km off the Blaa Alm are all paths and roads paved and suitable for road bikes. The dirt road in front of the Blaa Alm is rolled and has no large stones, so that you can drive with a race bike. Scenic highlights are the lakes Grundlsee and Altausseer See and the wonderful view towards the Dachstein Glacier from the Café & Recreation Berta in Obertressen.

The Ausseer Cycle Path R61 starts near the train station in Pichl - Kainisch. Road cyclists can start the bike tour on the Salzkammergut Cycle Path R19 in Trautenfels, because the roads are paved from Trautenfels to Pichl - Kainisch. Anyone driving the Ausseer bike path in the opposite direction has with the inn "Zur Fischerin" in Pichl - Kainisch a wonderful opportunity to finish the bike ride on a beautiful, sunny terrace (450m after the tour ends along the gravel road - the green line in the Google Map).

Equal to the first 1.5 km, we drive up 90 vertical meters from Pichl - Kainisch up to the Radlingpass. From Radlingpass we have the first good look at the mountain - loser, who will accompany us through the whole bike tour. After a slight descent at km 4.3, we turn to the right towards the lake - Grundlsee and we achieving these after 6.7 kilometers. On the beautiful lake we take the first break. Then we turn left and drive about 70 vertical meters uphill towards Mosern and the second lake - Altaussee. At the end of the short descent to Obertressen is adjacent to the Ausseer Cycle Path the very good Café Berta. From the sunny terrace you’ll have a wonderful view over the region - Ausseerland to the Dachstein Glacier. At the end of the side road we arrive at km 13th Altaussee. The bike path leads us uphill along the river - Altausseer Traun to the lake – Altausseer See. 400m after the hotel – “Hotel Seevilla” and next to the playground there is another place for a peaceful break on the shore of the lake and a public toilet. After the break, we drive back a few meters and turn right in front of the hotel – “Hotel Seevilla”. Now we follow again the signs from the Ausseer cycle path through Altaussee towards Blaa Alm. In the last five kilometers to the cozy Blaa Alm, we drive on the road – “Loser Panoramastraße”  170 vertical meters uphill. The last 1.5 km to the Blaa Alm is not paved. The gravel road is well rolled and has no large stones, so that you can drive with some care with your race up to the hut – Blaa Alm. If you are still looking for a bigger challenge, you can also drive 750 vertical meters and 8km uphill on the loser scenic road.
