The new Course C of the Salzkammergut Trophy is with 73 kilometers the optimal supplement between the Course B with 119 km and the Course D of 54 km. With two free trains you'll reach the start destination in Obertraun. In the shaded area, a tent for the race number output has been established.

The first five kilometers are driven on a loop in Obertraun. Where there is uphill a paved road and downhill the first interesting single trail. There was only a little congestion, the field has moved through the 85 meters in length. In Hallstatt at km 10.5 starts after the warm-up phase the hardest section on the Salzkammergut Trophy - Course C. The slope in Hallstatt to the "Salzberg" is 3.7 km long and 547 Altimeter partly be the gradients of up to 34.5 percent. Depending on condition, therefore a few hundred meters or kilometers have to be covered on foot. There are apparently very few of this slope can pass through completely. It is especially important that you are on this slope not completely spent, because it follows after a short descent (-290 Altimeter) down to Waldbachstrub the next long climb to Strähnhag up with 709Hm.

In Waldbachstrub there is the first rest station at which you should fill up his two water bottles necessarily. For the approximately 8 km long slope to Strähnhag has normal 8.6% average gradient and overall 709 altimeter, but on warm days you should drink a lot. Only between the pasture Durchgangalm to the pass Strähnhag there are a few challenging climbs up to 20%. The Strähnhag (1504m) is the highest point and after a short downhill with 700m and 15% slope you'll reach the second refreshment area in the near of the Roßalm. Before beginning the long descent to the lake Gosausee there is after the Roßalm and Grubenalm still two small hills with 35 or 75 altimeters. To the lake Gosausee down there especially after the Ebenalm to the Gosausee some fine views across the Gosaukamm and the Dachstein Glacier.

Don't underestimate the 5-kilometer-long slope (462 Altimeter) of Gosau-Hintertal to Schäferalm on hot days. The equally long descent from the Schäferalm down to Gosau is very fast and because of some tighter turns you should be careful when you never driven the track before. Even the last section of the forest road is quite advanced. Those reaching the new viewer point and rest station in Gosau, it has been almost done by the last approximately 20 km have only a few small inclines of up to 20m and 70 meters before the Gosauzwang.

I find particularly commendable into the very interesting route in Gosau and the last kilometers to Bad Goisern.

The Salzkammergut Trophy is the heaviest and biggest MTB marathon in Austria. In 2010 more than 4,000 mountain bikers from 30 nations were at the start. But you can choose from six different routes and the time limits are set so that one achievable with an average speed of less than 10 km/h the finisch in time. In addition to the international elite Mountainbiker starts even very prominent athletes such as this year Andreas Goldberger and Andreas Schifferer. With Bike Expo, Pasta Party, Downhill competition for unicyclists, playground for children in the vicinity of the target area, helicopter flights, moderated audience meetings along the track and professional moderators in the finish area, Slow Motion score, raffle, Bike Wash, etc., the Trophy has a large and very interesting program. The technical features (photos, videos, homepage, etc.) and care for the mountain bikers and spectators are first class. So you get even a few minutes after the finish your time with the rank in your age group by SMS.

The many happy faces at the finish to prove that there are still thousands of winners in addition to the official winner of themselves.

In respect of the route choice must be said that a mountain bike marathon is so strenuous for at least 2 times as a cycling marathon with the road bike.

In the Salzkammergut Trophy you drive on road sections which are otherwise locked on the rest of the year for cycling. So if you want to ride the mountain bike ride under a year should take a good map to drive around the blocked channels.

Not all photos are from the Trophy 2010th. The images with the signing LB 2009 are from the Hallstatt MTB tour I have taken a year earlier.

On the occasion of the tragic death in the Salzkammergut Trophy 2010, I would like to bring the family of the victim to express my sincere condolences.

While we pause in remembrance of the deceased, but once we think about it whether or not our beloved mountain biking here and there but is too selfish. Would not it be nice looking at such a beautiful MTB marathon more than a shared experience with like the lonely fight for every yard and every second. While other participants are just in the way and are instead intended to overtake them, so you can show them that one is faster?
