The mountain bike tour
Oberhüttensee is up to the hut - Vögeialm a very easy and well signposted tour.
Until then, there are only a few short sections with a slope between 5-10%. The
first 4km from Forstau are paved and then you’ll bike on a good gravel road.
Until Vögeialm you must also be careful on the road, since cars can drive up
there. According to the Vögeialm up to the lake - Oberhüttensee the gravel road
is with long slopes of 20% quite exhausting.
From the famous ski resort Forstau (Fageralm) we take the first 4km along a
paved road to Farmau. There are olny the first 2,5km with a 5% slope a little
bit exhausting. Until the last farm where the gravel road begins, we go in
between even a little downhill. On the remaining kilometers to Vögeialm 1.383m leads
the tour leads past beautiful pastures. I especially found the unfortunately
not managed hut - Hintereggalm after 9.5 km on 1.340m very nice.
Immediately on the left side of the hut - Vögeialm start the nearly 4km long
and steep gravel trail up the lake - Oberhüttensee. Just the average gradient
is 12.5%. On the most difficult section between km 12 to 13.5 you must bike a
slope of 18%. But the beautiful mountain lake with its crystal clear water at
1.865m and the rest on the beautiful hut – Oberhütte are well worth the effort.
The 400m long and 150m wide lake is between the alps Radstädter Tauern and Schladminger
Tauern. Many hikers already know the beautiful lake of hikes on the mountain
Steirische Kalkspitze, or on the lap around the mountain Sonntagskarhöhe. On
the sun terrace you get delicious specialties, cheese and bacon from the own
production, always fresh buttermilk and yogurt from the cows who life on the
pasture during the summer. There is also the possibility for 32 persons to stay
overnight in the camp and rooms. The breakfast with the wonderful mountain
views is an unforgettable experience.
