We start this Salzkammergut bike tour in Hallstatt. The world-famous town with 900 residents was appointed as glacier Dachstein of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town on Lake Hallstatt is famous because of its beautiful houses built close together between the lake and the rock. The medium difficult 76.2 km long bike ride offers us next to the lake “Hallstättersee” in Styria also the lakes “Altausseer See” & “Grundlsee” and ends at the very well-known mountain “Grimming” in the Enns Valley.

In the beginning we drive 8 kilometers and comfortable without a lot of vertical meters past the Lake Hallstättersee to Obertraun and then to the east to Bad Aussee. The Koppenpass start with a slope of 14% fairly steep and the last 500m before you’ll reach the pass you have to overcome a gradient of 23%. Then you drive on the road “Koppenstraße” about 5km without major elevation changes. Just before the train station in Bad Aussee, there is a short, steep descent. A few hundred meters after the railway station in Bad Aussee, we turn not on the Salzkammergut bike path marked with R19 to the right. Since the Salzkammergut Cycle Path to Pichl-Kainisch is not paved and therefore not suitable for a racing bike. So we go first straight uphill and reach a kilometer later the main course in Bad Aussee. There we make a first stop and look at the small, beautiful city park. Of particular interest is the Mercedes star by the river - Traun.

From Bad Aussee to Altaussee we drive on the road in a northwesterly direction on the road – Altausseer Straße with 2-3% slightly uphill. Equal right after the bridge over the river – Augstbach we turn right and drive down to the lake – Altausseer See. When you’ll bike before the hotel Seevilla a few hundred meters to the left, you’ll have a free access to the lake and a nice place for a wonderful break on the shore of lake – Altausseer See. There is also a public toilet too. We drive now on the Salzkammergut cycle path and follow the signs "Ausseer Cycle Path R61" to its end in Pichl-Kainisch. The Salzkammergut cycle path leads us first through the districts Obertressen and Mosern to Grundlsee. After 25.5 km, we reach the beautiful café Berta. Because of the beautiful views you should make there a brake. Anyone interested in gardens should necessarily take the time to go through the Paradise Garden. After a short descent we reach Grundlsee. Since we wanted to see more of the lake - Grundlsee we have decided to leave the Salzkammergut cycle path and drive until the inn "Rostiger Anker" in Gößl. Who is situated on the other end of the lake - Grundlsee. This trip on the Grundlsee has 12 very nice, recommended additional kilometers.

After the chilly kilometers on Grundlsee you’ll come to the last, long climb up to the Radlingpass and then back down to Pichl-Kainisch. After the railway crossing you turn left again onto the Salzkammergut Cycle Path R19. Along the very low-traffic roads are the snack station Stieger at km 52.5 and at km 55 the beautiful village Obersdorf. In addition to the old, well-kept houses was built on the hill the parish and pilgrimage church - Maria Kumitz. After the underpass, we drive now south of the Salzkammergut Street. The next 6 kilometers on the Salzkammergut cycle path leads us next to beautiful green meadows and at km 58.5 just before Bad Mitterndorf we have a very nice break at the hut – “Steirerhütte”. Between Bad Mitterndorf and Krungl there is an easily manageable slope with about 40 vertical meters. Once at the top then you have a wonderful panoramic to the mountain - Grimming. Passing through the village Krungl at the ski flying hill at the Kulm, through the village Klachau and the road "Alte Klachau" down, we end this highly recommended tour in Trautenfels.

Once in the Enns Valley, we have after 76 kilometers and 1105 vertical meters even a little strength left and drive up the few meters to the castle Trautenfels. The natural and cultural history of Enns and Ausseerland is the focus of the collection of Trautenfels Castle, which unites since the 1950s, zoological, geological and mineralogical evidence, and ethnographic objects and archaeological finds from the region. In addition to exhibitions founded the castle also fascinated by its Baroque interior quality. Finally, one should climb the castle tower, which provides a vantage point a wonderful view over the Enns Valley the mountains. Before or after visiting the exhibition, you can strengthen yourself at the restaurant in the castle Trautenfels or below the castle at the fish restaurant.
