The bike ride on the Salzkammergut bike paths R2 and R15 of Mondsee to Hallstatt is 59.5 kilometers long and have only 297 vertical meters. This option is highly recommended for all cyclists, as the bike path along the lake Wolfgangsee is not paved. This variant also dispenses the gravel road along the river - Traun in Bad Goisern, but runs on a cycle path beside the main road through the region Salzkammergut. Even the Salzkammergut Cycle Path R2 on the east bank of Lake - Hallstattättersee is not suitable for road bikes. Therefore we drive from Bad Goisern on the street  - Pass Gschütt and  the road – Hällstätter Landesstraße to Hallstatt.

Starting from the main square in Mondsee we drive first along the northern shore of Lake Mondsee. The Salzkammergut Cycle Path R2 runs in this section right beside the road – Attersee Straße and the shore oft he lake – Mondsee in the direction to Attersee. After 5 kilometers we turn right onto the small road Salzkammergutweg to Seewinkl. This section includes a short climb of about 15 vertical meters. After the short descent there are 7km on the road to the village Unterach am Attersee. On the south bank of the lake Attersee to Weissenbach am Attersee, there are on the also well-marked bike path R15 some wonderful places for a break with excellent sea view. Behind Weißenbach am Attersee is the bike path next to the road only a dirt road, therefore we remain with our road bikes on the road. The slight slope on the bike path R15 to Mitterweißenbach at Km 34 has only about 100 vertical meters. Back on the Salzkammergut Cycle Path R2 we drive always upstream along the river – Traun. So we reach after 40km the beautiful spa town of Bad Ischl. The romantic resort of Bad Ischl offers many very interesting buildings from the empire and on the banks of the river Traun, a beautiful promenade with many cafes for a nice break next to the River Traun.

Contrary to the signs of the Salzkammergut Cycle Path we with cross our road bikes the river Traun and turn immediately to the right. The bike path south of the River Traun in the direction of Bad Goisern has no gravel roads and is therefore ideally suited for road bikes. Shortly after Bad Ischl runs the bike path with the exception of the little village Laufen, mostly next tot he Salzkammergut road. After 48 kilometers we reach Bad Goisern. The beautiful location near the Lake Hallstatt we know very well from the Salzkammergut Trophy  - the largest and one oft he best mtb marathons in austria. Along the street – Obere Marktstraße we leave Bad Goisern and drive on the road pass Gschütt towards Hallstatt. From km 52.5 km we follow no longer follow the signs to the Salzkammergut Cycle Path R2, which is on the eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt suitable only for off-road wheels. Once we have crossed the river -  Traun during outflow of Lake Hallstatt we make a nice break on the beach 500m later. At the crossing at Km 56 in Gosaumühle we turn left onto the street - Hallstätterstraße. From there it's only 3.5 kilometers to the famous town of Hallstatt.

The community is located on the lake - Hallstättersee and the region Salzkammergut in Upper Austria and consists of the districts: Hallstatt, Lahn, Gosauzwang and Salzberg. Hallstatt is situated at an altitude of 510m and has a total of about 900 inhabitants. Best known is the disdrict of Hallstatt with its houses built close together between the lake and the steep cliffs next to the 5.9 km long and 2.3 km wide Lake Hallstatt.
