This 75.9 km long bike ride from St. Wolfgang across the mountain - Schafberg runs entirely on bike paths - Salzkammergut Cycle Path R2 and Weißenbachtal Cycle Path R15. The highlights of this tour are the towns of St. Wolfgang, Bad Ischl, St. Gilgen and the Salzkammergut lakes - Wolfgangsee, Attersee and Mondsee. In the round through the wonderful region Salzkammergut, there are only two slight inclines.

From St. Wolfgang we drive first out from the beautiful tourist resort and after 6 kilometers we reach the village Strobl on the east bank of Lake Wolfgangsee. The Salzkammergut cycle path R2 to Bad Ischl is indeed continuously paved, but has a few narrow sections. Cyclists who want to move faster should turn left after 3.3 km on the road L546. In Wirling after 6 km you‘ll be back on this bike ride. About the villages Pfandl and Kreutern we reach the beautiful town of Bad Ischl after 20km. To Bad Ischl we drive on the bike path from St. Wolfgang with a few short exceptions always slightly downwards. The romantic resort of Bad Ischl offers many very interesting buildings from the empire and on the banks of the river - Traun, a beautiful promenade with many cafes for a first short break. After Bad Ischl we drive on the Salzkammergut cycle path next to the road B145 and along the Traun River downstream until  Mitterweißenbach. There we left after 26 kilometers, the Salzkammergut Cycle Path R2 and go to the bike path Weißenbachtal R15. Since the traffic through the valley – Weißenbachtal is not particularly high, it is not so bad that there is no cycyl path along the road. On the 6.2 km long uphill section up to Stehrerau (572m) there are 105 vertical meters. This corresponds to an average gradient of only 1.7%.

Next to the road down to Weißenbach am Attersee was built from km 36 a 3 km long gravel path. This is not suitable for road bikes and all cyclists must stay on the road. In Weissenbach am Attersee, we turn left and go again on the Salzkammergut bike path R2 along the south shore of the lake -Attersee until just before Unterach on Attersee. On the southern shore, there are some nice places for a break with excellent sea views. As soon as we are bent in Unterach of the road Seeleiten we turn sharp left after a few meters  onto the road Salzkammergutweg. 2 km later, we reach the next also beautiful  lake Mondsee. On the south shore of Lake Mondsee starts at km 50 the wall – Kienbergwand, who fall vertical into the lake. In 2004 was built next to the tunnel for motor vehicles, a 1,500 m long tunnel only for the cyclists. Every few hundred meters in the very well-lit tunnel is an opening to the outside. From there, you have a wonderful view of Lake Mondsee. In Scharfling begin the second slight incline up to the – Scharflinger Höhe. The 2.5 km have an average slope of 5%. The slightly higher traffic volume disturbs a little. One kilometer after the lake Krottensee we leave the road – Mondseestraße and drive down to St. Gilgen on a steep, narrow road. On the south shore of Lake Wolfgang the Salzkammergut cycle path is up tot he village Gschwand still paved 6.5 km long. Racing drivers, I recommend then proceed along the orange line on the Google map to the south shore of Lake Wolfgang. From there you can take the ferry across the sea back to the starting point in St. Wolfgang. Otherwise you must drive on the busy highway 5.5 km to Strobl. All others will drive on the beautifully landscaped gravel road and will reach Strobl at km 70. In the same way as at the beginning of the tour we drive around the hill - Bürgl back to St. Wolfgang.
