Right after the start in Bad Mitterndorf we drive, away from the main road, on the Salzkammergut Cycle Path comfortably in the direction Bad Aussee. After 3 km is a small slope through Obersdorf and up to the pilgrimage church of Maria Kumitz. Then it goes downhill again in the village of Pichl-Kainisch. After a small detour via Mühlreith we leave at km 9.7 the Salzkammergut Cycle Path. The paved road Ödenseestraße leads us directly to the lake and from the hut - Kohlröserlhütte begins on the gravel road the very nice ride around the lake - Ödensee.

The Ödensee (776m) is a bog lake in the village Pichl-Kainisch, Region Ausseerland - Salzkammergut. Since 1991 he is as Natura 2000 area under protection. It is fed only by underground springs. Special the grass meadows, the Golden Worm Moths and the natural forests and peat bogs need protection. In the meadows are found as rare plants such as the Broad-leaved orchid, the long-leaved sundew, the mealy primrose, the marsh clover and the ball-devil's claw. In Pichl-Kainisch was originally mined much peat that was used as fuel in the saline. From the original 28-acre bog, only minor parts have been preserved. Although the lake Ödensee is one of the colder lakes, it is in the hot summer days, a very popular swimming. The maximum depth of the bog lake is about 19 meters. The anglers appreciate the Ödensee because of its very rich and diverse fish population. So there are many brown trout, char, pike, whitefish, rainbow trout, lake trout and carp.

After the lake you follow the markings of MTB Dachsteinrunde blue. After another small increase of 70 vertical meters, we meet at km 14.5, the mountain bikers who are traveling on the MTB Dachsteinrunde Black. Until Mühlreith it goes slightly downhill and then along a forest road about 300 vertical meters up to the hut - Steinitzenalm. In this slope is also a 600m long section with an average gradient of 17%. Besides the good views of the mountain - Grimming you can also take a chilling break at the managed hut - Steinitzenalm. Through Almgraben we cycle downhill, exit at km 25.3 the Dachsteinrunde and drive straight back to Bad Mitterndorf.
