On the well-marked bike ride in the Styrian nature park “Südsteirisches Weinland”, we drive through a beautiful, distinctive landscape, which is exquisite by its pristine and natural. Especially those who take this tour often can very well observe how the nature changes in thedifferent seasons. Who takes the time can learn to love the great hospitality of the wine taverns and the excellent Styrian wines.

We start the bike tour in Leibnitz near the sports field and cross first the former railway bridge. Along the river “Lassnitz” we drive at km 1,8 past the swimming pool of Leibnitz. The first 17 kilometers to Spielfeld are very flat and we can drive from “Landscha” on the Mur Cycle Path (R2 marking) to warm up very well. In Spielfeld, we cross the bridge over the river “Mur” and we leave the Mur cycle path. Before we take the first big climb on the wine route we visit the beautiful church and the castle court. The detour of only a few hundred meters is highly recommended, because from there you have a wonderful view over the surrounding countryside in the south part of Styria.

Along the road “Steirische Weinstraße” you’ll drive up to the village Graßnitzberg. Another very good viewpoint is the vantage point Plac. A characteristic of the wine route is in the fact that the border with Slovenia is in the middle of the road. As cyclists we see that very intense, because the white border stones accompany us some kilometers until the village “Ratsch an der Weinstraße”. From km 33 follows a 6 km long descent past the hill “Lubekogel” down to Gamlitz on a high of 278m. Gamlitz is the largest wine-growing town in Styria. About 10 percent of the Styrian wines are grown here. Who want to know more about the history of wine can take a break at the Wine Museum in Gamlitz. The name Gamlitz mean the hilly landscape that we enjoy on this tour.

Towards Großklein we continue the tour through the hills - Labitschberg and Kranachberg. For this purpose, we drive 1,3 km comfortable on the road L621 until Grubtal and turn left. On Kranachberg after the guard band cyclists should use the red line in the Google Map through Kranach. If they don’t want to push their bike on a 700m long forest track. On little-traveled roads we reach at kilometer 53 with 613m the highest point of the tour on the South Styrian Wine Road. We are always very impressed about the wonderful views at the vantage point Kreuzberg. After that we drive comfortable down to Großklein and towards Saggau. Then the wine road bike ride take us in common with the two-river tour along the river - Saggau and then continue along the Sulmtal cycle path R1 and the Sausal Tour to the nice villages Heimschuh and Kaindorf near Leibnitz.
