The Freiberg cross-country ski trail in Tauplitz is 5.3 km long, has a total height difference of only 49m, and is on 945m to 970m. The trail entrance with a small parking lot is located just north of the village. It has also a connection track (green line in the Google Map) to get to the start and finish area of Freiberg trail. From the Start (blue marker) the Freiberg trail leads first counter-clockwise to the east towards Gnanitztal. After 500m you reach the lowest point of the cross-country skiing with the connection to Tauplitz cross-country track. Those who change to the cross-country track Tauplitz comes after six kilometers back to Freiberg trail. On the Freiberg trail follows a gradient with up to 5%, but is not that hard.

On the cross-country track you have always a splendid panorama, not because the trail leads through a forest and no trees obstruct the view. The best views you have in the north of Tauplitz for the mountain "Sturzhahn" near Tauplitzalm, in the east to the valley Gnanitztal, west towards the Dachstein glacier and the south of the mountain Grimming. By the junction with the road that leads into Gnanitztal you have to unbuckle once the cross-country skis. The Freiberg cross-country skiing is especially for light training or just for an enjoyable cross-country ski in the beautiful scenery in Tauplitz (Salzkammergut - Ausseerland - Grimming).

The village Tauplitz has about 1,000 inhabitants and is located at about 900m above sea level in the district Liezen / Styria on the edge of the Styrian Salzkammergut. The night toboggan run at "Grafenwiesen" lift in Tauplitz is about 600m long and is illuminated with 17 special lights. Every Tuesday and Saturday evening the lift is open. After the sledding you can heat up in the ski lodge at Grafenwiesen again. Other leisure activities in winter sports region Tauplitz: sleigh rides, ice skating, curling, skiing and winter hiking.

In summer, the lake plateau of Tauplitzalm (Webcams), with its beautiful karst landscapes and interesting vegetation is a very popular hiking area. That over the Tauplitzalm road from Bad Mitterndorf, or with the chairlift is very easy to reach. By the lakes Großsee and Tauplitzsee you can fishing with daily license. I especially like the shimmering emerald Steirersee lake in the eastern part of the Tauplitzalm.

A bike ride on the Tauplitzalm (1656m) and the mountain bike tour of Bad Mitterndorf to Grundlsee are just two examples of the many beautiful cycling and mountain bike tours which can be done in the summer in the region Ausseerland or Salzkammergut. Only a few miles from the center in Tauplitz removed is located the "Kulm" the world largest natural-ski jump.
