Cortina d'Ampezzo is an italian town with about 6.900 inhabitants in the Dolomites - Belluno Province - Veneto. The largest populated area of the Ladin in the Dolomites is  with its neighboring communities Livinallongo del Col di Lana and Colle Santa Lucia to the Italian in the Region Ampezzo. Many mountains higher than 3.000m surrounding Cortina,  such as Tofana 3.243m, Cristallo 3.218m and Sorapis 3205m. Especially the winter tourism is the most important economic factor. In February there are about 50.000 guests who spend their winter holiday in Cortina d'Ampezzo. In Cortina there are a total of 115 km of ski slopes in the ski areas Falora, Cristallo, Mietres - Tofana - Lagazuoi and Cinque Torri. The highest point in the ski resorts of Cortina d'Ampezzo is located on the top of the Cristallo with 2.939m.
In addition to the regularly World Cup events (bobsleigh and alpine FIS World Cup race -  Women's) Cortina hosted in 1956 the Olympic Winter Games. In 1932 and 1941 also the World Alpine Ski Championships. There are still some cross country races and marathons, curling competitions such as the Curling World Championships, 2010 European Cup Snowboard Cross and winter polo in Cortina d‘ Ampezzo.
In 1990 was founded north of Cortina d'Ampezzo the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d‘ Ampezzo with 11,000 hectares. In the park live in a protected environment, chamois, deer, marmots, mountain goats, golden eagles, rock partridge, capercaillie.
