Garmisch – Partenkirchen is a town in Germany and with its approximately 26.000 inhabitants it‘s the capital of  the district Garmisch - Partenkirchen in the district of Upper Bavaria. In the famous ski resort was already held for several times great skiing events. E.g. 1978 Alpine Skiing World Championships, Olympic Winter Games, World Cup alpine regular competitions and the Alpine World Ski Championships 2011. The wide valley by Garmisch - Partenkirchen is bounded on the north of the Ammergebirge, east of Estegebirges and Wettergebirge. The Zugspitze is with 2.962m the highest mountain of Germany and is in Wettersteingebirge south of Garmisch - Partenkirchen. On the Zugspitzplatt a plateau about 300m below the summit, there is Germany's only glacier ski area.

On the Zugspitze glacier in the winter 8 drag lift, 1 chair lift and 2 cable cars in operation. In summer there are 4 ski lifts open. The glacier can be reached in the summer with the mountain railway or the 2 Gondolas - Eibsee - Cable Car and the glacier railway. In the ski resort of Garmisch - Classic there are for skiers 8 drag lifts, 4 chair lifts and 4 cable cars.
