 Sochi is a Russian city with a population of approximately 350.000. It is located on the Black Sea in the Krasnodar region. Sochi is a very popular seaside resort in Russia and is also called the Russian Riviera. Around 200 sunny days a year attract not only the Russian President, but also tourists and Russian leisure seekers. Sochi is not so long a russian city.

Even 1890 there lived only around hundred people in Sochi. Today, nearly 150 km coast are expected to Sochi. Already at the turn of the century mansions arose rich merchants, industrialists and aristocrats. The dream of a Russian Nice arose, a meeting place of nobility and aristocracy of money. The university town is the venue for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games and the Formula 1 race, the Grand Prix of Russia, in 2014, first held in Sochi. In addition, the football stadium in Sochi will also be a venue for the 2018 World Cup.

Krasnaya Polyana is a mountain village with about 4600 inhabitants located about 40 kilometers in a straight line north-east of Sochi. The city is located at about 580m above sea level in the valley Mzymta. The mountains of the Caucasus reach heights of over 3000m and here are partly glaciated. Krasnaya Polyana has been expanded in recent years with billions in investments for the 2014 Winter Olympics to the exclusive ski resort. The city is between two large nature reserves and the whole region is in summer also a very popular hiking area. The landscape has a similar character as the alpine mountains in Switzerland.
