Piran Pirano Pirian jewel adriatic

With a unique atmosphere, its tranquility and for centuries unchanged charm is the town Piran not touristy but very authentic. And there is no place in the city, from which you could not have a very good view. With its picturesque location, its Venetian old town, the city on the Slovene Riviera is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovenia. The Municipality of Piran has 17,000 inhabitants on 45 km². The town itself has 4,100 inhabitants.

The mild Mediterranean climate is characterized by high average temperatures (January: 4.4 degrees, 21.5 degrees in July). Three typical winds are found in this part of the Adriatic Sea. From the northwest blows the moderate mistral. The strong, hot southerly Scirocco from Sahara and the stormy, cold fall wind Bora from the northeast with wind speeds up to 200 km/h in the winter.

In the center of the city is the restored Tartini square. It was created in 1894 when the harbor has become too small. In the middle of the square stands the bronze monument to the composer Giuseppe Tartini. The most beautiful buildings on the square are the neoclassical City Hall on the north side and on the right a red Gothic house. The Venetians house was built by a rich Venice businessman for his ladylove.
