Between the two ski resorts, Val d'Isere (1800m) and Tignes (2000-2100m) in the French Alps is the huge ski area Espace Killy. This ski resort offers, at an altitude of 1550 to 3456m, 300 mostly mild slopes with nearly 100 lifts (38 lifts, 48 chair lifts, 10 cable cars). But there are indeed some very challenging trails and many opportunities to go off-piste in deep snow.
Val d'Isère is located in the valley of the Isere, has an area of 94km ² and 1700 inhabitants. The popular resort is an integral part of the Alpine World Cup calendar and venue of big competitions, such as the World Alpine Ski Championships 2009th. In addition, the wonderful Col de l'Iseran was often included in the route of the Tour de France – bike race. With 2770m he is since 1937 the highest mountain pass you can pass with a car. Just behind the Espace Killy ski area is the Vanoise National Park. The ski tourism began around 1934 and is today the most important revenue source of Val d'Isere.
Tignes is a small community with about 200 residents in the department of Savoie. The highest town in Europe is at about 2000-2100m. Tignes is on the river Isère, which was dammed to the Lac du Chevril. The old village of Tignes was replaced by the building of the dam.
