Zagreb is the capital of Croatia. With about 800.000 residents is Zagreb also the largest city in Croatia. The river Sava flows through Zagreb and the landmark of Zagreb is the Cathedral. The first written mention of Zagreb was in the year 1094. In the 16th Century was Zagreb first mentioned as the Croatian capital. The University of Zagreb was built in  the 17th Century. After World War 1 was Croatia a Kingddom Yugoslavia together with Serbia and Slovenia. After the Second World War was Croatia together with Slovenia,  and Serbia in the Republic of Yugoslavia.

In 1991 Croatia declared its independence from Yugoslavia. After that was Croatia in a war with Serbia to 1995. Among the most significant cultural events include the Zagreb Film Festival, Theatre Festival and the Documentary Film Festival.

Attractions in Zagreb: Lotrščak Tower, St. Mark's Church, Parliament Building, Banal courtyard - the seat of government, the stone gate, Cathedral of Zagreb, Ban Jelacic Square, Zrinski place Maksimir place, Croatian National Theatre.
